We always hear that we need to wear SPF every day in order to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. But (like flossing), how many of us actually take the time out of our mornings and make the effort? The medical team at Yonick Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center are here to give you five reasons why you should reconsider your morning skincare routine and add some daily sunscreen into the mix.

1. Prevent and Reduce Signs of Aging

One of the leading factors that causes our skin to age prematurely is exposure to the sun’s UV rays. Ultraviolet light can cause some serious damage, resulting in dull skin that’s dry and riddled with wrinkles. A good, medical-grade sunscreen can work wonders in reducing sun damage and the signs of aging that go along with it. Consider a product with broad-spectrum UVA & UVB SPF 30 or higher, and re-apply every two hours on a daily basis.

2. Banish Sun Spots Long-Term

Sun spots are small, brown patches of skin that appear with excess sun exposure. Mimicking the appearance of freckles or birth marks, sun spots are a direct result of unprotected skin having been exposed to the sun. When choosing a medical-grade SPF for everyday wear, consider a product that protects against both UVA and UVB rays for full-spectrum coverage.

3. Avoid Broken Blood Vessels and Hyperpigmentation

Have you ever gotten a sunburn and noticed that thin, red lines along the skin’s surface have begun to linger? This may be a sign of long-term hyperpigmentation and broken blood vessels. While there are treatments to correct hyperpigmentation, it’s best to escape the problem with preventative action. Avoid damaging and thinning your blood vessels by getting a daily sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection.

4. Reduce the Risk of Skin Cancer

This may be the most obvious reason on the list, but we felt the need to share. Aging skin and sun spots are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to damage caused by the sun’s UV rays. Using broad-spectrum UVA & UVB SPF 30 or higher, and re-applying every two hours on a daily basis is the best step you can take to prevent the development of harmful skin cancers that can wreak havoc on the skin and the body over time.

5. Most are More than Just Sunscreen

Believe it or not, most daily use sunscreens nowadays are more than just sunscreen. Medical-grade skincare products presented by lines like ZO® Skin Health, Alastin® Skincare, and our very own Yonick Skin Care, are formulated with more than just SPF. Containing skin rejuvenating compounds such as hyaluronic acid and skin calming ingredients, you’re not just protecting your skin from the sun each time you apply, but you’re also hydrating and nourishing the skin along the way.

If you’re unsure which sunscreen is right for you and your skin, we encourage you to contact us and schedule your private consultation with one of our expert medical team members today. They’ll be happy to sit down with you, listen to your concerns, and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you get the naturally youthful appearance you desire.
